Questions & objectives

Is the Latin American city diffused? Is the urban sprawl suburbanized the same way as the European? What is the spatial pattern of expansive processes? Which similarities exist between the behavior of European and Latin American cities? What trends show the densities of expansive processes? Where are observed higher levels of fragmentation? What role does physical planning? Is there a relationship between growth rates and different degrees of fragmentation? What factors explain the greater or lesser fragmentation of expansive processes?

Objectives:

Quantify the processes of urban expansion and fragmentation of Latin American capitals and major cities compared with European cities. Build a platform of categories, concepts and spatial classification methodology to compare the cases studied with the European reality.

  1. Build a platform of categories, concepts and spatial classification methodology to compare the cases studied with the European reality.
  2. To quantify the degree of fragmentation of urban sprawl (compactness and continuity)
    a. Characterizing fragmentation
    b. Compare urban fragmentation in Latin America with Europe
    c. Determine the densities of the vectors expansive
  3. Explanatory factors determine differences in the fragmentation of expansive processes.

Analyze the regulatory frameworks and compare them with expansive processes and their effects.
